The Airboard® brand
Airboard® is the registered trademark for a winter sports device that was developed by the Swiss Joe Steiner in the 1990s. Made from high-quality plastic-coated textiles, the result is a light and extremely durable snow glider that is also known as a bodyboard for the snow. In 2010, Airboard® expanded its range to include inflatable SUPs (stand-up paddles).
Snow-Bodyboards
Since 2001, Fun-Care has produced and sold over 150,000 bodyboards worldwide, including around 30,000 in Switzerland. The constantly growing number of "Airboarders" is looking for attractive slopes, which is clearly noticeable in a winter sports area with a new airboard offering.
But it is not just the increasing turnover in rentals or the sale of day passes to Airboarders that is exciting, it is also the low number of accidents that may surprise some people. Even the SKUS (Swiss Commission for Accident Prevention on Snow Sports Slopes) rates Airboards as less dangerous than conventional sleds. This statement is clearly underlined by the statistics provided by the providers.
In times when the growth figures for skiers and snowboarders are stagnating, it makes sense to make room for a new sport and customers rather than trying to poach existing winter sports enthusiasts.
In this context, the short learning phase of Airboarding is also very interesting. Beginners experience success in the first hour and the dynamic nature of this sport means that people who were not interested in skiing or snowboarding because of the long and expensive learning phase suddenly discover an affordable winter sport.
Inflatable paddleboards
In Europe, 8 out of 10 SUPs are inflatable products, as they have the advantage of being easy to transport and store when not inflated. Since sales are also growing strongly internationally, Airboard® is keen to be able to carry out repairs and recycle products that are no longer in use locally.
Since 2024, Airboard® has also had Prone boards in its range
